We’re proud that the TK Maxx and Homesense Foundation is funding a two-part programme that’s contributing £1,700,000 to help in the fight against Covid-19. This Foundation programme is happening in addition to a donation by TK Maxx and Homesense stores of over £6,000,000* worth of food products that were delivered to food banks and medical charities in local communities across Europe.
Most recently, our lovely associates packed up seasonal treats from our stores and donated them to foodbanks, medical and children’s charities.
The Foundation’s programme will fund...
Community Fund, £1,000,000
The Community Fund is dedicated to helping local grassroots charities who are working hard in the fight against Covid-19. Associates from our TK Maxx and Homesense stores, processing centres and offices across Europe have nominated charities within their community who are doing great work in supporting the most vulnerable.
Tackle Covid-19 Fund, £700,000
The second part of the programme is the Tackle Covid-19 Fund of £700,000, also funded by the Foundation. This has seen separate amounts donated to mental health charities (Mind in England and Wales) and frontline medical charities (NHS Charities Together in the UK) supporting those impacted by Covid-19. The fund also includes a component of support for our national charity partners to help protect their income and a donation of £100,000 to the Retail Trust’s dedicated appeal ‘CaRe20’ in the UK, which works to provide emotional and practical support services to workers in the retail industry.
This programme is in addition to a donation by the Foundation of £135,000 to the British Red Cross Disaster Relief Alliance, which helps ground-breaking global emergency response strategies and is being used to support those affected by the Covid-19 emergency globally.
Louise Greenlees, President of TJX Europe
“Our thoughts are with people around the world who have been affected by the Covid-19 outbreak. It has been brilliant to see good works, kindness and community spirit springing up all over the place. We are very thankful that the TK Maxx and Homesense Foundation can play a small role in supporting our communities at this time of need.”
The Community Fund supporting local charities chosen by our associates
The TK Maxx and Homesense Foundation is passionate about supporting local communities. That’s why, through the Foundation’s Community Fund, our associates are able to apply for grants on behalf of local grassroots charities that are important to them, their families and their local communities.
We’re proud that the TK Maxx and Homesense Foundation has a £1,000,000 Community Fund which is helping local charities across Europe – including 695 Charities in the UK like South Ayrshire Befriending Project, St John's Ambulance and Brent Foodbank.
Hear from the TK Maxx and Homesense associates who’ve nominated charities through The Community Fund…
“I chose to nominateSouth Ayrshire Befriending Project. It's a charity doing very important work in my neighbourhood, supporting young people with a range of needs, including young carers and those with challenging home lives. These people have limited adult support at home and very limited opportunities to socialise or make friends. Many are in environments affected by poverty, drugs, alcohol or mental health issues. A significant number are involved in child protection procedures and aren’t engaged in education. I believe everyone should feel valued and know that building confidence and self-esteem can be life changing. Through the Community Fund I was able to support this amazing charity.”
“I want to thank the TK Maxx and Homesense Foundation for supporting St John Ambulance through the Community Fund. This donation means so much for my charity as it offers essential support services to the NHS, particularly at major events like Twickenham Rugby and the London Marathon. But it also supports local communities at village fairs, school events and church services. Last year, St John Ambulance treated 65,000 patients and is currently providing frontline care in 52 NHS hospitals, supporting 999 services and upgrading all first aiders with Covid-19 training to support nurses and doctors on the frontline.”
“The reason I chose to nominateBrent Foodbank is because it’s well-recognised that food banks have been struggling during the Covid-19 pandemic, as donations have decreased. Having food on the table is something many of us take for granted. The team at this charity work so hard to ensure the local community is provided with food – so supporting them was the least I could do.”
Supporting charities through our Tackle Covid-19 Fund
The TK Maxx and Homesense Foundation is passionate above giving back to our local communities. Let us tell you more about how The TK Maxx and Homesense Foundation is supporting two charities here in the UK…
NHS Charities Together
Funds donated by the TK Maxx and Homesense Foundation have helped NHS Charities Together meet the immediate and urgent needs of staff, volunteers and patients – providing somewhere comfortable so they can take a break, nutritious food and drink, use of electronic tablets so patients, staff and volunteers can stay in contact with loved ones, counselling support to protect mental health and help staff and volunteers process what they are dealing with. They are also working to identify where additional support is most urgently needed by NHS staff, volunteers and patients in their area, with a particular focus on support for people who are disproportionately affected by the Covid-19 crisis, such as patients and staff from the BAME communities and high-risk groups like those living with disabilities.
Ellie Orton, CEO, from NHS Charities Together said:
“While there probably isn’t a thank you big enough for all the amazing NHS staff and volunteers, there also isn’t one for the people and organisations that have supported them to do their vital work. We’ve been totally overwhelmed.”
Funds donated by the TK Maxx and Homesense Foundation will help Mind to make sure no one has to face a mental health problem alone at this time. In these times, it’s more important than ever that we take care of our mental health. Mind provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. In response to Covid-19 they’re providing practical advice on coping with staying at home, tips for employers on supporting teams and advice specifically aimed.
