GARDENING: THE MINDFUL WAY

Caring for your garden can be a great way of practising mindfulness – helping you to get back in touch with nature (and yourself, of course). Here are few top tips to help you feel calm, connected and in control, all in the comfort of your garden.

Start as you mean to go on
Before you head out into your garden, take a moment to relax. Close the door behind you and take a few deep breaths.

Calming colours
Different shades can have a huge impact on the way we feel, so if you have a wall or pots you’d like to paint – do a little research first. Cool tones such as blues, purples and greens are calm and relaxing, whilst richer tones like red, orange and yellow can be warm and welcoming.

Subtle scents
By using a mixture of different plants you can create a garden that smells gently refreshing. In order to avoid an overpowering scent, try not to put all of the strongly scented plants together. Instead, try a combination of floral and herb fragrances along paths and near your house.

Sweet sound
Whether you’d prefer a quiet stream or a louder splash, the gentle sound of a trickling water fountain is the perfect final touch. Alternatively, pick up a hanging wind chime for a tranquil background twinkle.

Gorgeous glow
One of our flickering lanterns or a string of our cosy fairy lights will give your garden a calming glow. Try placing a few candles of different heights together on your garden table for a lovely centrepiece, too.
